Method in which automated execution of a test comprising a number of test cases is undertaken be a data processing device on a test object, i.e. a software component. The method uses a multidimensional test matrix with all the test values of test object parameters. When a robustness error occurs, a fault cause analysis is undertaken in which critical test values are determined. Selected test cases that contain critical test values are not carried out, so that the number of test cases to be executed is reduced.
