PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently suppress various adverse effects such as crush of gradation caused by gradation correction. SOLUTION: This gradation correcting device is provided with a gradation correction means 1 to calculate gradation correction characteristics based on brightness distribution of an input signal and to perform gradation correction of the input signal by using the calculated gradation correction characteristics, a difference of brightness detecting means 2 to detect prescribed characteristics from the input signal, correction means 3 and a control means 5 to control the gradation correction to be performed by the gradation correction means 1 based on a detection result.
