PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner which sharply reduces the installation cost of itself by abolishing at least a part of transmission wiring for exclusive use of control signals, and is capable of free arrangement by dissolving the limitation on the range of transmissibility at the time of adopting a control signal multiplexing system or a wireless transmission system to a power cable. SOLUTION: The air conditioner comprises an outdoor unit 7, an indoor unit 8, a power cable 3 for the outdoor unit, and a power cable 4 for the indoor unit, and multiplexes control signals on the power cable with the outdoor unit 7 and the indoor unit 8 prior to transmission and reception. Converters 6 for power cable multiplexed signals and radio signals are connected each to the power cables 3 and 4. The indoor unit 7 multiples and sends a control signal to the power cable 3 at transmission of a control signal, and the converter 6 connected to the power cable 3 converts the power cable multiplexed signal received from the outdoor unit 7 into a radio signal, and wirelesses it to the converter 6 connected to the power cable 4. The converter 6 connected to the power cable 4, when it receives a radio signal, converts it again to a power cable multiplexed signal and sends it to the power cable 4. When the indoor unit 8 receives this signal, it can send a control signal from the outdoor unit 7 to the indoor unit 8.
