PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device which is equipped with the two independent focus driving means and which is used to prohibit the recording or reproduction of information under abnormal conditions by detecting whether or not the focus driving means is in malfunctional condition. SOLUTION: The two focus driving means are so conditioned that no quantity of drive is driven and the two focus driving means are so conditioned as to be driven in antiphase. In the event that an amplitude difference is thereunder below a predetermined value with respect to an output signal of a regenerative signal-detecting means which is detected on the basis of the light reflecting from the optical disk, either of the two focus driving means is determined to be abnormal.
