PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge light type light guide plate which removes a dark line and a bright line appearing in illumination light due to an edge silhouette optical image on the incident side with a simple and inexpensive configuration. SOLUTION: In the light guide plate 2 to be used for the edge light type backlight system, a base region A with a specified width extending from the end face 21 on the incident side in a base reflection plane 22 is formed into a diffusion plane by abrasive blasting treatment or the like. Because the edge silhouette optical image on the incident side is scattered by the diffusion plane, the appearance of the dark line and the bright line in the illuminated region on the incident side of the light guide plate 2 is prevented or suppressed.
