PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for image retrieval which can stores inputted images and easily retrieve an arbitrary image among those images. SOLUTION: In a window 31, an image of a calendar 32 is displayed. In the window 31, a display is all made as a pattern (image) including the calendar 32. In the window 31, reference codes 33 are respective dates in the calendar and reference codes 34 are thumbnail displays of images corresponding to specific dates. In this example, 26th, 27th, and 28th are given '*', which indicates that images corresponding to the dates are present. A date 35 which has its number inverted and is encircled with a broken-line frame indicates that a cursor is positioned at this data 35. In Fig. 2 (b), an image given the image number 27 of the corresponding data is displayed as a thumbnail image 34.
