PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of producing an alicyclic compound containing a glycidyl group with few chlorine contents under an industrially favorable condition with good reactivity, and to provide a low viscosity epoxy resin composition excellent in electrical isolation and weather resistance. SOLUTION: When an alicyclic compound containing a glycidyl group is produced by nucleus hydrogenating with an aromatic compound containing the glycidyl group using a rhodium catalyst or a ruthenium catalyst, the nucleus hydrogenation is nucleus hydrogenated in the presence of an alcohol containing an ether group shown by the formula (1). (In the formula, R1 shows a 1-5C chain or branched chain alkyl group, n shows an integer of 1-3.) And the low viscosity epoxy resin excellent in electrical isolation and light resistance using the organic alicyclic compound containing the glycidyl group as materials is obtained.
