PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recovering fluoroalkylsulfonic acid which is a substance useful as a catalyst for medical treatments, organic synthetic reactions, and the like. SOLUTION: This method for recovering the fluoroalkylsulfonic acid, comprising reacting a fluoroalkylsulfonic acid represented by the general formula: CnF2n+1SO3H [(n)=1 to 8] with phosphorus pentaoxide and distilling the reaction product to obtain the fluoroalkylsulfonic anhydride, characterized by adding a metal hydroxide or metal carbonate capable of producing an insoluble phosphate to the distillation residual solution containing the fluoroalkylsulfonic acid and the phosphoric acid and removing the produced insoluble metal phosphate precipitates to obtain the soluble fluoroalkylsulfonate, by adding sulfuric acid to the obtained soluble fluoroalkylsulfonate and then distilling the fluoroalkylsulfonic acid, or by adding potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide to the obtained soluble fluoroalkylsulfonate.
