PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the conditions that it becomes hard to see an on-screen- display(OSD) such as a warning display by an enlarged display for confirming the focusing. SOLUTION: In an electronic camera, when an enlargement button is depressed by a cameraperson when a screen of an imaging mode for still image is displayed, a picture-in-picture image which is enlarged at the central part of the screen is displayed on a liquid crystal monitor 68. If there is no idle capacity in a memory card inserted into the camera, and if it is detected that it is in a situation that cannot record new image a warning 'CARD FULL!' is displayed on the monitor 68. During the display of the warning, a control to inhibit the enlarged display attendant on the operation of the button is performed. A composition auxiliary frame that serves as a guideline of framing can be displayed on the screen of the monitor 68, but simultaneous display of the frame and the enlarged displaying is inhibited.
