PURPOSE: An in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to repair bad opening of data lines without forming any additional repair lines, by electrically connecting the data lines with first and second dummy patterns by laser welding and cutting and insulating common electrodes integrated with the first and second dummy patterns from common lines in case of bad data line opening. CONSTITUTION: An in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display includes first and second substrates opposed to each other via a liquid crystal layer, data lines(33) and gate lines(31) crossly aligned on the first substrate(30) and defining a plurality of pixel areas on the first substrate, a plurality of common electrodes(41) and data electrodes(37) aligned in the respective pixel areas for applying in-plane electric fields, and first and second dummy patterns(39,39a) overlapped at both sides of the data lines and integrated with the common electrodes.
