PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely and quickly select a focus detecting point and a range- finding point on which the intention of a user is reflected even though the detected looking point of the user is vague by a certain degree and also to perform accurate focusing at a main object. SOLUTION: This device possesses a detecting means for the line of sight (#107) to detect the looking point of the user by picking up the eyeball image of the user, a defocusing amount detecting means to respectively detect a defocusing amount at plural focus detecting points within an image plane, a focus detecting point selecting means (#109) to set the focus detecting point at which the defocusing amount included in a specified defocusing range is detected by taking the defocusing amount detected at the focus detecting point at a nearest position to the looking point of the user as a reference as a focus detecting point group in which the main object exists and focus detecting point selecting means (#110-#112) to select at least one focus detecting point by performing the specified selection processing of the focus detecting point for the focus detecting point group selected. |
