The invention relates to a process for preparing the (+-)cis, trans-2-(dimethylamino)-methyl-1-(m-methoxyphenyl)-cyclohexane-1-ol hydrochloride, consisting in neutralizing the corresponding base with a solution of chlorine hydride concentrated in n-propyl carbinol, with further azeotropic removal of water, the excess of n-propyl carbinol and chlorine hydride, the resulting product being then isolated by precipitation from anhydrous solvents.
