PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition having high moisture absorbing and releasing properties and capable of developing an excellent moisture absorbing and releasing rate by using an organic polymer containing a specific amount of a specified polar group and having a cross-linked structure. CONSTITUTION: This composition comprises (A) an organic polymer containing 1.0-8.0 milliequivalents/g of potassium salt type carboxyl groups and having a cross-linked structure. All of the carboxyl groups contained in the polymer are especially preferably converted into the potassium type as the type of the salt of the carboxyl groups. A method for copolymerizing, e.g. a monomer having the potassium salt type carboxyl group with another monomer capable of carrying out a homopolymerization or a copolymerization and providing the polymer is cited as a method for introducing the potassium salt type carboxyl groups into the organic polymer. The polymer is preferably any of a fibrous, a particulate and a sheetlike forms. Thereby, the composition can be applied to fibers, textile processed products, sheets, paper, nonwoven fabrics, films, coating materials, adhesives, etc.
