<p>A process for making polyolefins is disclosed. At least one olefin is polymerized using a single-site catalyst, an optional activator, and an ionic liquid. The ionic liquid helps to increase catalyst lifetime and activity, particularly for late transition metal catalysts. Polymer products separate cleanly from the highly polar ionic liquid, making isolation and purification simple. The ionic liquid is easily recycled. Versatile and radically different from the usual nonpolar organics, ionic liquids are an exceptional choice as solvents for single-site catalyzed olefin polymerizations.</p> |
