PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively radiate heat generated due to the slide of a seal ring with a rotary shaft to prolong the service life of the seal ring. SOLUTION: A spring plate 18 having a larger coefficient of thermal expansion than that of the seal ring 10 is mounted on an end face of the annular seal ring 10 made of carbon and divided into a plurality of parts in the peripheral direction. The spring plate 18 consists of a main body part 19 inserted into a groove 15 of the seal ring 10 and a flange part 20 formed integrally in the main body part 19. When heat is generated due to the slide of the seal ring 10 with the rotary shaft 28, the heat is transmitted to a spring plate 18 side and is radiated, the spring plate 18 is thermally expanded to push and widen in the direction in which a diameter is increased by the seal ring 10, and a primary sealing part 11 of the seal ring 10 leaves the rotary shaft 28 temporarily to prevent an increase of thermal load of the seal ring 10.
