PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a work support device in a main spindle capable of reducing variation of a pressing force against a work depending on length of the work and requiring no adjustment when the length of the work varies. SOLUTION: The work support device supports, in the main spindle 1, the rear end of the work W of which front end is grabbed by a chuck 5 at the front end of the main spindle 1 in order to machine the front end of the work W penetrated through the main spindle 1. The device comprises an air cylinder 9 provided in the rear part of the main spindle 1 with its piston rod 12 side disposed on the front side, a work receiving part 10 disposed at the front end of the piston rod 12 of the air cylinder 9 for receiving the rear end of the work W, and an air pressure adjusting circuit 11 for adjusting air pressure of the air cylinder 9.
