PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for retrieving person more improved in convenience by irregularly dealing with personal information without forcing a new burden to each of persons, and being linked with a conventional personal information data base system concerning conventional static information. SOLUTION: In an environment for transmitting/receiving information on a computer network, a server system for retrieving information converts a variety of document resources into document information containing author information, retrieves all the sentences of a document on retrieval conditions transmitted from a client system, extracts the author information from the retrieved document, collects the information for each author by being linked with a personal information data base system and transmits the list of authors to the client system as the retrieved result. When specified person information is contained in the retrieval conditions, the more detailed information of the relevant person is transmitted to the client system.
