The microscope has at least one light source and illumination optics followed by a polarizer (4) and, after the light has interacted with the object (7), an objective, a re-magnification optical arrangement and an image detector. A compensator (5) is arranged in the light path between the polarizer and the objective. The microscope can be configured as a top lit device, especially with a beam divider.
