PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply producing 3-methyltetrahydrofuran and 3-methyldihydrofuran in high yield with industrial advantage. SOLUTION: 3-Hydroxy-3-methyltetrahydrofuran is dehydrated in the presence of an acidic substance to for 3-methyldihydrofuran and the resultant 3- methyldihydrofuran is characteristically hydrogenated in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to produce the objective 3-methyltetrahydrofuran.
