The invention comprises a storage battery container and cover having at least one partition dividing the container into a number of cells, at least one corresponding rib in the cover and at least one inter-cell connector which straddles the partition and fits into a recess in the top of it or in the rib. In a particular embodiment the battery container 1 is divided by partitions 2 and 3 into cells which accommodate electrode groups 4 and 6. The positive plates of one group are joined to the negative plates of the next by connector 8 which comprises forkshaped members 10 and 11 which fit the lugs on the plates and are joined by yoke 12 which has hole 14 passing through it. The cover 9 is grooved at the rim and the groove is broadened to accommodate the connector. The cover also has holes for the terminal posts and for topping up each cell. The battery may be assembled by placing the electrode groups into the cells, connecting them, pouring adhesive, e.g. an epoxy-resin, into the groove in the cover, inverting the container and pressing it against the cover. Alternatively the adhesive may be thixotropic and the cover may be inverted instead of the container. In another embodiment the connectors are straight rather than yoke-shaped. The invention may be applied to lead acid or alkaline batteries. |
