Portable apparatus for generating limited electrical power to individuals in remote locations, comprises an electrical generating device 13 driven by speed-increasing gearing from a wind-driven rotor 3, 14, and an upright support mast assembly, formed from separable sections 6 and 12, on which the device is removeably pivotally mounted. The rotor is removeable from the device and its blades 3 are foldable together, and the device is provided with a removeable steering vane assembly 1 and 2. The mast assembly is supported by guy-ropes 16 secured by respective pegs 7. Thus the apparatus can be readily dismantled and is easily portable due to its small size and weight. Its uses include heating via a cable 5 and a voltage regulator 9, a sleeping bag 10, an electric blanket, water or food; and powering a radio transceiver or a light beacon. |
