PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modify a conventional perfecting sheet-fed offset printing press into a varnish coating mechanism. SOLUTION: A surface printing unit and a back printing unit are formed by providing a blanket cylinder, a plate cylinder and an inking mechanism at the upper and the lower part of each of impression cylinders having a paper gripper. In addition, the surface and back of each of sheets are alternately printed by connecting both surface and back printing units to the impression cylinders. In the perfecting sheet-fed offset printing mechanism of the described operating function, the varnish coating mechanism for the perfecting press is characterized in that a varnish is applied to the front face and the back of the sheet and dried through each unit of an impression cylinder for a varnish coater of the surface and the back printing unit.
