PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method and device for an internal combustion engine capable of executing accurate control with the suitable changeover of data sets even in the internal combustion engine of asymmetric structure. SOLUTION: In this control method for an internal combustion engine with at least two combustion chambers, a control function executed by at least one processor is executed as a link between at least one program code which is the base of the control function, and at least one data set additionally provided at the program code. The combustion chambers are grouped into at least two engine blocks each of which is additionally provided with the data set, and the control function of the engine blocks are executed selecting the data set additionally provided at each engine block.
