1360663 Acetates of 1,3-propanediol FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 19 Nov 1971 [21 Nov 1970] 53840/71 Heading C2C Acetates of 1,3-propanediol are prepared by catalytically hydrogenating # - acetoxypropionaldehyde in solution in acetic acid with hydrogen at a pressure of from 1-500 atmospheres and at a temperature below 250‹ C. The catalyst contains metals of Group VIII of the Periodic Table, e.g. Rh, Pd, Pt, Ni, Cu, or Cr either in colloidal or finely dispersed form or supported on inert carrier materials such as active carbon, silica gel or an aluminium oxide. By-products obtained in the process are npropanol and n-propyl acetate. #-acetoxy propionaldehyde is prepared by passing acrolein and glacial acetic acid over a basic ion exchange resin. |
