METHOD FOR REPROGRAMMING ENGINE CONTROL UNIT OF VEHICLE

PURPOSE: A reprogramming method for an engine control unit is provided to reprogram a flash EPROM(Electrically Programmable Read-Only Memory) of an ECU(Engine Control Unit) by interactive communication of an ECU diagnostic unit with the ECU via a K-Line withdrawn from the ECU. CONSTITUTION: A reprogramming method comprises the steps of: resetting an ECU by hardware to reprogram a flash EPROM of the ECU(S10,S20); initializing communication with the ECU by an ECU diagnostic unit(S30); receiving reprogramming data in the ECU(S40); writing the reprogramming data in the flash EPROM to perform a reprogramming work(S50); and transmitting results of validity test and check sum to the ECU diagnostic unit after reprogramming the flash EPROM(S60). While flash EPROM of the ECU is not separated, interactive communication between the ECU diagnostic unit with the ECU via a K-line withdrawn from the ECU is performed. Therefore, the flash EPROM of the ECU is reprogrammed.
