PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new gene which encodes mouse nephrin protein having a specific base sequence, expresses specifically in the mouse kidney, and can be used for screening medicines against various renal diseases accompanied with proteinuria or the like. SOLUTION: This is a new gene which encodes nephrin protein, wherein the gene is DNA encoding the mouse nephrin protein having the base sequence from 1st to 3768th or from 88th to 3768th as shown by the formula, DNA which has a homology of 78.5% or more to the DNA having the base sequence from 1st to 3768th or from 88th to 3768th as shown by the formula and has a function similar to the protein encoded by the DNA, DNA which hybridizes to the DNA having the base sequence from 1st to 3768th or from 88th to 3768th as shown by the formula under a stringent condition and has a function similar to the protein encoded by the DNA, and is obtained by screening a sequence having a high homology to a human nephrin gene from a mouse kidney cDNA library. |
