A novel infrared-absorbing dye which has intense absorption in a near infrared region and is excellent in the ability to absorb near infrared and heat rays, visible light transmission, and light resistance; and an infrared absorption filter containing the dye. The dye is a metal complex dye represented by general formula (I), (wherein X represents sulfur or selenium; M represents a metal element; R1 to R8 each independently represents hydrogen, etc.; and X1 to X10 each independently represents hydrogen, halogeno, nitro, cyano, optionally substituted alkyl, etc., provided that at least one of X1 to X10 is not hydrogen.
