PURPOSE: An apparatus and method of stabilizing an image mute in a PDP(plasma display panel) TV is to classify the image mute signal into a power on/off mode and a channel changing mode, thereby increasing a duration of the panel and stabilizing a system. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for stabilizing an image mute in a PDP TV comprises a micro-computer(7) for outputting an image mute signal classified into when switching off power and when changing a channel; a power supplying portion(15) for supplying power to each portion; a panel portion(14) for displaying an image; and a control timing portion(12) for receiving the image mute signal of the micro-computer to control the power supplying portion when switching off the power and blocking an input to the panel portion when changing the channel to perform an image mute operation. A method of stabilizing an image mute in a PDP TV comprises the steps of: determining whether the image mute signal is input; determining whether a predetermined pulse signal having a desired length is included in the image mute signal if the image mute signal is input; regarding as a power off state if the pulse signal is included and then breaking the power supplied to each portion; and regarding as a channel changing state if the pulse signal is not included and then blocking a signal applied to the panel to mute the image. |
