The outer shell (2) is separated from the inner shell (3) by at least one slide layer (4) enabling it to be moved relative to the inner shell. Coupling fittings (5) at opposite ends of the two shells for joining them together are also used to absorb energy generated as a result of this relative movement, enabling the shock of a downwards impact against the helmet to be effectively absorbed.
