PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the S/N of an X-ray image signal. SOLUTION: The X-ray image pickup panel 12 onto which an X-ray transmitted through an object such as a human body is projected is provided with 1st and 2nd X-ray image pickup sections 13, 13' respectively having photoconductive layers 62, 62'. The 1st and 2nd X-ray image pickup sections 13, 13' convert charges generated by emitting an X-ray to the respective photoconductive layers 62, 62' into an X-ray image signal and an electric signal with an enhanced S/N is obtained by synthesizing the electric signals obtained through the conversion. A charge generating layer is made thick by adopting a 2-layer structure for the photoconductive layers 62, 62'. As a result, the S/N of the X-ray image signal can be enhanced.
