PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent merchandise in an automatic vending machine from freezing even when the mashine is set to cooling in the atmospheric temperature below the freezing point in an automatic vending machine installed in a cold region. SOLUTION: This controller consists of a cooling system, a heater, a fan sending cooled or heated air, a cooling/heating changeover switch 7 that switches whether to cool or to heat, a thermostat 6 controlling the operation of a cooling system/heater according to the temperature inside a housing chamber, an opening/closing contact 8 which is connected to a power supply circuit of the heater and is for opening/closing power supply to the heater, a setting means 10 for setting and inputting a control temperature of the heater and an operation controlling part 9 connected to the contact 8 and the means 10.
