Retaining wall for an embankment etc., has a number of tyres (11) arranged in a number of courses, with the central axis of each tyre in the outer face of the wall offset from both the vertical and the horizontal. Also claimed are walls, or methods of making walls, of tyres: (a) in which some tyres are cut between opposing side walls leaving a section uncut to allow pivoting so that both side walls face downwardly and/or with a portion of one side wall removed and arranged in the tyre adjacent the remaining side wall, so the remaining uncut side wall faces down; or (b) in which reinforcing sections (25) extend into the wall, the sections being cut from tyres and optionally arranged in grid section, and/or the sections are formed of conveyor belt portions or sections. The reinforcing sections are also claimed. An additional claim relates to a wall of tyres arranged in courses on a base (101) that slopes downwardly toward the embankment. |
