PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electronic camera that surely transmits image data at high speed to an external device without making the size of a camera body and an adaptor larger and increasing the cost of them. SOLUTION: The electronic camera 1 is provided with an image data generating means 2 that generates image data, a connection means 4 that removably connects a recording medium 11 and an adaptor 13 sending/receiving information to/from an external device such as a personal computer, a data transfer means 3 that transfers the image data to the adaptor 13 or the recording medium 11 through the connection means 4, and a communication control means 5 that controls the transmission reception of data to the adaptor 13 or the recording medium 11 connected to the connection means 4. In this case, the connection means 4 has a conductor part 26 for communication with a hand-shake signal to both of the adaptor 13 and the recording medium 11, and the communication control means 5 controls the transmission reception of data to the adaptor 13 or the recording medium 11 on the basis of the communication with the hand-shake signal through the conductor part.
