The invention relates to an automatic cleaning device with a motor (3) arranged behind the cleaning head (1) for driving the cleaning agents (9). Said motor is mounted in a guide tube (7) and is freely pivoted. Said guide tube is connected to a manipulator which guides the cleaning device across the surface to be cleaned. Behind the motor (3) a counterweight (4) is arranged in the guide tube (7) which represents a balance weight to the cleaning head (1). The motor shaft (8), the motor (3) and the counterweight (4) can be swiveled in relation to one another and are diverted if the housing (27) of the cleaning head (1) encounters an obstacle such as a window frame. Said swiveling motion produces an adjusting signal for the drive of the manipulator. Once the cleaning head is released, the swivel condition is automatically countermanded by a spring-loaded centering device (18, 19, 20, 21, 22).
