PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the gas replacement rate by a simple method by providing a gas replacement pool on a cup sealing machine, storing gas heavier than air stored in the pool before sealing a container with a film and substituting air in the container. SOLUTION: A food storage container B in which rice 7 or the like is stored in a cup 3 is held by a retainer 5, over which a frame larger than the cup 3 and having the height of the degree of not flowing out gas is placed to form a pool 4 and replacement gas heavier than air is injected therein and kept the gas for an adequate time. Then the frame 4 is removed and a film 2 is covered on an opening of the cup 3 and heat sealed thereon to form a gas substituted food container A. The replacement gas can be selected in compliance with the purpose, and in the case of applying the same to a food, inert carbon dioxide and argon are desirable, particularly carbon dioxide gas with sterilization force is most desirable. In the case of heating or pressure sterilization for a water solution-like food, the more pressure is increased, the more the solubility of the gaseous carbon dioxide into water is increased, and the use of gaseous carbon dioxide eliminates the defects of rupture, deformation and the like of the container.
