PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound useful as an active ingredient used in agents for controlling pests or parasites such as threadworms, eelworms, insects or mites. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I [R is a halogen, nitro, cyano, a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C haloalkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy or the like; (n) is 0, 1, 2 or 3; Q is a 3-6C alkenyl, a 3-6C haloalkenyl, a 3-7C cycloalkyl or the like], for example, 2-[(4,4,3-trifluoro-3-butenyl)thio]thiazolo[4,5-b]pyridine. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by reacting a 2-thiolthiazolo[4,5-b]pyridine compound of formula II with an electrophilic compound of formula III (X is Cl, Br or I) in the presence of a base in a solvent. It is preferable that the effective amount of a pest or parasite-controlling agent containing the compound of formula I as an active ingredient is brought into contact with pests, parasites, or their feed-supplying, living or breeding areas.
