PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide nickel hydroxide powder having particle surface uniformly covered with cobalt hydroxide of high crystallinity, with high tap density, and suitable for a positive active material of a non-sintered alkaline storage battery to be manufactured in a paste process, for example. SOLUTION: This powder consists of a core of nickel hydroxide and particles of nickel hydroxide covered with cobalt hydroxide, and has a tap density of 2.00 g/mol or more. The powder is prepared in such a way that an aqueous solution containing cobalt ions and an aqueous solution containing ammonium ions are simultaneously supplied at a constant supply speed to a suspension of nickel hydroxide powder having a tap density >=2.05 g/ml while pH of the suspension is adjusted at a constant value of 10.5-13.0 by caustic alkali, atmosphere of the suspension is kept inert, and so that ammonium ion concentration in the suspension becomes 7-25 g/l. |
