PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct environmental clean-up of polluted soil, water, gas, or the like and to efficiently perform environmental restoration treatment by contacting objects to be decomposed (e.g. volatile organic chlorine compound or the like) with microorganisms under a specific condition to decompose the objects. SOLUTION: When contacting objects to be decomposed selected from volatile organic chlorine compounds and aromatic compounds (e.g. phenol, o-, m- and p-cresols, toluene, trichloroethylene, cis-1,2-dichloroethylene, trans-1,2- dichloroethylene and 1,1-dichloroethylene) with oxygenase-developing microorganisms [e.g. J1 strain (FERM BP-5102), JM1 strain (FERM BP-5352), or the like] to decompose the objects, the present method gives the microorganisms at least one factor selected from the group consisting of a temperature shift, the feed of nutrient, oxygen supply, stirring and pH adjustment, all affecting the decomposition action of microorganisms, one or more times on the way to the decomposing process.
