PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate deterioration, elution, etc., of components due to water absorption and enhance aesthetic properties of an appearance by smoking a brick in a state in which a material having a lower melting point than that of a brick base material is sintered on the surface of the brick. SOLUTION: A brick obtained by using a dismantled brick of a smelting furnace, a scouring furnace, an incinerating furnace, a flue, etc., is used as a raw material and kept in a state of its surface in which a material having a lower melting point than that of a brick base material such as phosphates, silicates or inorganic salts is sintered is smoked and recycled to afford a recycled brick. A raw material brick in which a water-soluble component such as soda ash, Glauber's salt or sodium sulfite is stored or sticks to the inside or outside is sufficiently heated and sintered until the low-melting material becomes insoluble. After sintering the raw material brick until the low-melting material becomes an insoluble material, the temperature is regulated to a temperature suitable for smoking and brought into contact with resins, oils and fats and further a carbonizable gas such as a vaporizable organic compound, etc., e.g. propane or butane in a state of cutting off oxygen and carbonized to cover the surface of the brick with carbon. A brick containing water-soluble components, as necessary, is dipped or washed in water to insolubilize and sinter the water-soluble components in a state of floating to the surface thereof at the time of drying.
