PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the image recording and reproducing device to easily retrieve a moving picture from a still picture photographed during photographing of the moving picture and the still picture from the moving picture. SOLUTION: A photographed moving picture are recorded on a magnetic tape 30. In this case, moving picture photographing start data including date and time data are recorded on a first track of the tape and moving photographing end data are recorded on a final track. In the case of photographing a still picture during photographing of a moving picture, still picture specifying data to specify the still picture are recorded on a corresponding track and also stored in an image storage device 36 that stores the still picture. The still picture specifying data contain photographing date and time data. Thus the moving picture or the still picture is retrieved by using the photographing date and time data for a key.
