PURPOSE:To improve the water resistance of a grease by incorporating a specific compound in the grease. CONSTITUTION:A polyoxyalkylene derivative of the formula (wherein B is a residue of a compound having 2 - 8 hydroxyl groups; AO is a 2 - 18 C oxyalkylene; X is a 2 - 5 C unsaturated hydrocarbon group or unsaturated acyl; R is a 1 - 40 C hydrocarbon group; (a), (b) and (c) are each 0 - 1,000; (l) and (n) are each 1 - 7; (m) is 0 - 2 l+m+n=2 - 8, m/l+n <= 1/2, and al+ bm+cn >= 1) is copolymerized with maleic anhydride or maleic acid (salt) in the presence of a peroxide catalyst to obtain a copolymer. The objective composition is obtained by blending grease with 0.1 - 10wt.% compound selected from the foregoing copolymer, hydrolyzates thereof and salts of the hydrolyzates. |
