PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the low-cost coupler with M×N ports which is easily manufactured by converging all beams which are emitted from the input array of channel waveguides on a common focus positioned nearby the center of an end of the output array. SOLUTION: The M×N star coupler has waveguides 31 of M channels coupled waveguides 32 of respective N channels through an intermediate planar waveguide 40. The center B of the end 30A where the respective channel waveguides 31 are coupled with the planar waveguide 30 corresponds to an arc of a circle positioned nearby the center of the opposite end part 30B of the planar waveguide 30 and the axes of the respective channel waveguides 31 are arranged radially about the point B. The end part 30B is in a shape similar about the center point A of the end part 30A and the axes of the respective channel waveguides 32 are arranged radially about the point A. Namely, two arrays are arranged sharing the focus as to the planar waveguide 30. |
