The combustion engine has a control device (24) for regulating the process sequence of the engine operating cycle in dependence on detected engine operating parameters, providing a variable engine operating cycle of 4 strokes, with charging of the combustion space (22) when at least one operating parameter reaches a given value. An Independent claim is also included for a control and regulation method for a reciprocating piston combustion engine.
