<p>An elevator system having a compact machineroom is disclosed. The elevator system uses a traction machine engaged with flat ropes to minimize the size of the machine. As a result, the machineroom is very compact and may be installed vertically adjacent to the hoistway without exceeding the roof line of a building. In another embodiment, the machineroom is a self-contained unit that may be pre-assembled and shipped to the building site to minimize installation time and costs.</p> |
