CARBON BLACK, ITS PRODUCTION AND RUBBER COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain carbon black suitable for tire tread simultaneously satisfying improvement in wear resistance and fuel cost characteristics, to provide a method for producing the carbon black and to obtain a rubber composition. SOLUTION: This carbon black belongs a hard-based region having >=80 (m<2> /g) CTAB(cetyltetraammonium bromide) and >=80 (mL/100 g) compression DBP and satisfies selective characteristic requirements of (1) oxygen content (0; wt.%); 0.5×10<-3> <=0/CTAB<=1.0×10<-2> , (2) a strong acidic group concentration (SA; meq/g) measured by Na2 CO3 ; SA/CTAB<=1.0×10<-4> , (3) a basic functional group concentration (B; meq/g); 2.5×10<-4> <=B/CTAB<=1.5×10<-3> , (4) a physical absorption rubber amount (A); 1.6×10<-4> <=A<=1.0×10<-3> . The carbon black is produced by oxidizing carbon black and heat-treating in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at >=600 deg.C. This rubber composition is obtained by compounding 20-100 pts.wt. of the carbon black with 100 pts.wt. of rubber.
