According to prior art, removal of scales covering the press plates or the die (4) is carried out by a grooved cutting edge arranged laterally in the frame of the scale removing device. The invention seeks to provide a safer way of removing said scales. This is achieved by radially expanding the scale to be removed using roll pressure, by rotating the press plates or die (4) from whose front ends the residues (discards, scales) have been removed, by rotating the radially adjustable cylinder (12) or cylinders (12) against said press plates or die and by subsequently stripping the sufficiently expanded scales. The invention also relates to a device for implementing the method, comprising a discard removing device with a frame and a traveller (6), having a downstream expansion cylinder fitted with a central rotational location for a press plate or die (4) and at least one rotationally driven adjustable cylinder (12) that is radially pressed against the press plate or die (4) to remove the scales from the press plate or the die (4) and means for separating the press plates or die (4) and the scales and separating the latter therefrom. |
