PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily produce a diagnostic system medium by defining an unused area of the diagnostic system medium as a diagnostic test area based on the file management information used for management of the file or directory of the diagnostic system medium. SOLUTION: A diagnostic system medium 1 stores a diagnostic program which confirms the normality of a computer system and specifies an abnormal part. A floppy disk device 2 is connected to a computer 3 and loads a diagnostic system, etc. A using state management table setting means 5 of a diagnostic program 4 which diagnoses the device 2 that is loaded into the memory of the computer 3 from the medium 1 refers to the system management information on the medium 1 to set a using state management table which shows the using/ unused areas. Then a diagnostic mean 6 uses an unused area to diagnose the device 2.
