<p>The tilting-mast rig for sailing craft involves the use of two floats some distance apart to provide buoyancy. The floats are linked by a framework supporting a raised horizontal pivot with its axis parallel to the craft centreline. The pivot carries the mast and sail and, on an extension in the opposite direction, a shell for the crew etc. All running gear is taken through the pivot point. A block and tackle between shelll and float system allows augmentation of the force opposing that on the sail. Shell and floats can be locked together.</p> |
