The catalyst contains rhodium and a compound of general formula (I). In (I): m = 1-1000; x = 0-4; W = CH2CH2, CH(CH3)CH2 or CH2CH(CH3); R = H, 1-5C alkyl or group of formula (II) or (III); a, b, c, d and e = 0-1000 where one of a, b, c, d and e is more than 0; R5-R9 = H, 1-5C alkyl or a group of formula (IV); R1 and R2 = 1-30C alkyl or 6-10C aryl optionally substituted by 1 to 5 1-3C alkyls; or R1 and R2 together with a P atom form a dibenzophospholyl of formula (V) or a 3,4-dimethylphospholyl of formula (VI); and L = 1-5C alkyl, 1-5C alkoxy, NO2, NR3R4, where R3 and R4 = H or 1-4C alkyl, Cl or OH. Also claimed is the preparation of the catalyst comprising contacting a rhodium salt or complex with a compound of formula (I). |
