PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically character-compose so as to produce a good balance for the entire character columns, by gradually moving and arranging the following character adjacent to the preceding character. SOLUTION: A Japanese character 'book' is arranged at a starting point X1 on a reference line L. Then, a following Japanese character 'is' is moved to the negative side of the line L for a beforehand determined size T0 (a trial movement amount) from the position where one side end of a square frame 'b' is approximately coincided with an end point X2 of the preceding character 'book' as shown in the broken lines. Note that the first trial movement amount T0 is set to 1/2 of the lateral size of a square frame 'a' of the character 'book', for example. Then, a discrimination is made to check whether an overlapping portion exists or not between the character 'book' and the character 'is' under the stated condition. If there exists an overlapping portion indicated by a black paint, the character 'is' is temporarily moved to the positive side of the line L for a size T and is put back to the original position. Then, the character is moved to the negative side of the line L for a size T1 which is equivalent to 1/2.To so that judgment is again made to check whether an overlapping portion exists or not between the preceding and following characters. |
